E614: Take Action Items

Focus on completing the tasks not winning the prize.

  1. The process of pyramid goals
    1. Start with a vision and drill down to the actions needed
    2. We focus on the actions, not the goals
    3. Do the work so you can reap the rewards
  2. So far this week
    1. We worked on vision, goals, and plans to achieve the goals – now the actions
    2. What tasks need to be done in order to facilitate our plans
    3. What do we need to do and when
  3. Create the task list
    1. I have uploaded an Implementation Plan spreadsheet here
      1. Use this to start with your plan and develop your tasks
      2. Use the bottom task section to track your activity and stay on course
    2. Break your plan down into single tasks
    3. Assign and track the tasks – start focusing on execution

E613: Creating Implementation Plans

Achieve your goals by creating action plans.

The next step in the Pyramid Goal System – Creating the plans

  1. We defined our targets
    1. Created our goals and trajectories
    2. We have completed the top portion of the pyramid
    3. Now – how do we reach the top?
  2. Creating the game plan
    1. What do you need to do to achieve your goals
    2. What improvements / changes / etc do you need to do
    3. How do you break your goal down into smaller chunks – plans on how to achieve
      1. Example – $5M or more in revenue
        1. That’s $417K per month @ 4 projects is $104K per project per month
          1. How? Schedule each project with the necessary resources to complete $104K
          2. Track each project bi-weekly to maintain production and make adjustments
  3. Create a summary of your plans and prioritize
    1. Take your list of goals that you created yesterday
      1. Start breaking those goals down into plans
    2. Review each plan based on the Priority Matrix
    3. Prioritize your plans and create your implementation plan for 2017

E535: Managing Expectations

We ver estimate what we can accomplish in a year and underestimate what we can achieve in ten years.

  1. We all have expectations and goals
    1. We have expectations of what we can achieve
    2. We have expectations of what others can achieve
    3. We have expectations of success
  2. We need to manage them properly
    1. We often set unrealistic expectations
    2. We expect things from others that are unrealistic
    3. We get caught up in instant gratification
  3. We need to adjust the process
    1. Understand that life is a marathon – things take time
    2. Small, consistent growth yields the greatest results
    3. Focus on the actions not the results
      1. Don’t get down when you miss a target unless you didn’t take action

E495: Understanding What’s Important

Are you working towards the results you really want?

Thanks to JB Glossinger at MorningCoach.com for this story.

  1. The Fisherman and the Businessman
    1. A fable about a fisherman in a small fishing village in Mexico
    2. The fisherman is happy with life
    3. The businessman wants to build a bigger business
  2. Understanding what is important
    1. Businessman – wants the journey of building a business
    2. Fisherman – wants the time to spend with his wife and family
    3. Both are right
  3. We need to make sure we chase the right things
    1. Review your goals versus your values
      1. Understand your reasons why
    2. Align what you strive for with what you really want
      1. Want to increase revenue? Why? More money?
      2. Maybe the answer is efficiency, more profits, better clients not more revenue
    3. Think about it

E424: Review First Quarter And Re-Energize

It’s the end of the first quarter. Time to review our progress, adjust and re-energize.

  1. Review your progress
    1. Dust off those goals and take-action items we set in December
    2. Look at what you intended to do
    3. Give yourself a grade on how well you did
  2. Adjust and correct course – things change
    1. Do any of your items need to be adjusted or amended?
    2. Are some complete? Some now habits?
    3. Should some be dropped off the list?
  3. It’s time to re-focus and re-energize
    1. Celebrate your successes and forgive your weaknesses
    2. Make the necessary adjustments
    3. Clean off your desk and get organized
    4. Take your new take-action items and write down you “why” next to each one
    5. Re-commit to taking action
    6. Don’t forget to do your mini-reviews at the end of each week.
