E614: Take Action Items
Focus on completing the tasks not winning the prize.
- The process of pyramid goals
- Start with a vision and drill down to the actions needed
- We focus on the actions, not the goals
- Do the work so you can reap the rewards
- So far this week
- We worked on vision, goals, and plans to achieve the goals – now the actions
- What tasks need to be done in order to facilitate our plans
- What do we need to do and when
- Create the task list
- I have uploaded an Implementation Plan spreadsheet here
- Use this to start with your plan and develop your tasks
- Use the bottom task section to track your activity and stay on course
- Break your plan down into single tasks
- Assign and track the tasks – start focusing on execution
- I have uploaded an Implementation Plan spreadsheet here
E613: Creating Implementation Plans
Achieve your goals by creating action plans.
The next step in the Pyramid Goal System – Creating the plans
- We defined our targets
- Created our goals and trajectories
- We have completed the top portion of the pyramid
- Now – how do we reach the top?
- Creating the game plan
- What do you need to do to achieve your goals
- What improvements / changes / etc do you need to do
- How do you break your goal down into smaller chunks – plans on how to achieve
- Example – $5M or more in revenue
- That’s $417K per month @ 4 projects is $104K per project per month
- How? Schedule each project with the necessary resources to complete $104K
- Track each project bi-weekly to maintain production and make adjustments
- That’s $417K per month @ 4 projects is $104K per project per month
- Example – $5M or more in revenue
- Create a summary of your plans and prioritize
- Take your list of goals that you created yesterday
- Start breaking those goals down into plans
- Review each plan based on the Priority Matrix
- Prioritize your plans and create your implementation plan for 2017
- Take your list of goals that you created yesterday
E535: Managing Expectations
We ver estimate what we can accomplish in a year and underestimate what we can achieve in ten years.
- We all have expectations and goals
- We have expectations of what we can achieve
- We have expectations of what others can achieve
- We have expectations of success
- We need to manage them properly
- We often set unrealistic expectations
- We expect things from others that are unrealistic
- We get caught up in instant gratification
- We need to adjust the process
- Understand that life is a marathon – things take time
- Small, consistent growth yields the greatest results
- Focus on the actions not the results
- Don’t get down when you miss a target unless you didn’t take action
E495: Understanding What’s Important
Are you working towards the results you really want?
Thanks to JB Glossinger at MorningCoach.com for this story.
- The Fisherman and the Businessman
- A fable about a fisherman in a small fishing village in Mexico
- The fisherman is happy with life
- The businessman wants to build a bigger business
- Understanding what is important
- Businessman – wants the journey of building a business
- Fisherman – wants the time to spend with his wife and family
- Both are right
- We need to make sure we chase the right things
- Review your goals versus your values
- Understand your reasons why
- Align what you strive for with what you really want
- Want to increase revenue? Why? More money?
- Maybe the answer is efficiency, more profits, better clients not more revenue
- Think about it
- Review your goals versus your values
E424: Review First Quarter And Re-Energize
It’s the end of the first quarter. Time to review our progress, adjust and re-energize.
- Review your progress
- Dust off those goals and take-action items we set in December
- Look at what you intended to do
- Give yourself a grade on how well you did
- Adjust and correct course – things change
- Do any of your items need to be adjusted or amended?
- Are some complete? Some now habits?
- Should some be dropped off the list?
- It’s time to re-focus and re-energize
- Celebrate your successes and forgive your weaknesses
- Make the necessary adjustments
- Clean off your desk and get organized
- Take your new take-action items and write down you “why” next to each one
- Re-commit to taking action
- Don’t forget to do your mini-reviews at the end of each week.
