E538: Correcting Problems
The true test of a contractor is how they handle problems.
- Every contractor has problems from time to time
- We get behind on schedule
- We have quality issues
- We have budget issues
- It’s Okay, things happen
- The difference is how you handle the problems
- Poor contractors blame others, good contractors make small improvements, elite contractors make changes
- You will be remembered for how you handle your problems
- What is your approach – if you have a quality issue on your project what is your response?
- The Owner wants too much
- That’s construction, we will fix it on the punchlist
- I’m sorry, we are taking action to make immediate corrections so it doesn’t happen again
- Recognize problems are opportunities
- This is your chance to show why you are the best
- Take responsibility for the problems, even if they are really someone else’s problems
- Take corrective action and implement changes to fix and prevent the problem
