“Keep your equipment in top working order to maintain a productive work site.”

Today we talk about systems for managing our equipment.

For many of us we have a fleet of equipment that we rely on to get our jobs done. Keeping that equipment in good working condition if paramount to keeping our jobs productive.

What:

Having a system in place that tracks and maintains our equipment in good working condition.

Why:

To continue to build a profitable business we need to keep our productivity up on our jobs. Having equipment failures is a huge drain on productivity.

How:

  • Inventory your equipment – make sure you have a list of all equipment
  • Track utilization – track when and how much you use each piece of equipment
  • Preventative Maintenance – be sure to have a system for tracking and planning preventative maintenance on all your equipment
  • Reporting System – develop a reporting system that will allow operators to report any issues and make sure you repair them
  • GPS Systems – there are a lot of great GPS monitoring systems out there, if your fleet is large enough make sure you use one
  • Monitor, Track and Analyze – to benefit from any system you have to use it, make sure you are looking at your equipment and getting the most out of your investment

Keeping equipment in proper condition benefits your business when you are using the equipment and also when it’s time to trade it in. If you don’t have one now, get one in place. Start small and build on it.

Take-Action Items:
