“Take a proactive approach to reviewing your contract drawings to avoid costly delays.”

Today we discuss drawing reviews.

A key aspect to building an elite organization is the pre-planning of your project and one aspect of the planning process is a drawing review.

What:

Review your contract drawings prior to starting the work to identify missing information or conflicts so we can submit RFIs and get the answers before we need them.

Why:

To protect our profits on projects we need to avoid unnecessary delays and issues. One way to accomplish that is by reviewing drawings to identify problems and get answers before we start the work.

How:

  • Review your drawings by discipline – follow the schedule – earthwork first then concrete, etc.
  • Look for common issues that are encountered like conflicting plans and details
  • Submit RFIs to get answers before you start that work
  • Create a list of common issues – update regularly
  • Have the whole team review the drawings – the more eyes the better

Taking this time upfront can save you from unexpected delays during your project.

Take-Action Items:

  1. If you don’t have a drawing review process start one

  2. Create a checklist of common issues

  3. Assign reviews to your project team
