“Boost your confidence levels by practicing good posture.”
Today we discuss how posture can improve our confidence.
What:
Our posture has a direct impact on our confidence levels. Improve your posture and boost your confidence.
Why:
Confidence is a key factor in our success. Your confidence impacts your social interactions and high levels of confidence create better more positive interactions. Boosting confidence will help get people to trust you, follow you and believe in you.
How:
There is proof the posture does in fact have an impact on our confidence. Amy Cuddy does an amazing TEDTalk on her studies that link posture to testosterone and cortisol levels. These hormones have a direct impact on your confidence. You can watch the talk here.
I won’t go into detail on the science here, just understand that good power posture raises testosterone and lowers cortisol which boosts our confidence. So let’s master our posture!
Here are three things you can do to help boost your posture:
- Morning Exercise: Each morning do some power poses in the mirror – spend one minute practicing standing up tall and elongating your spine then spend two minutes practicing a power pose like “Wonder-Woman”. (standing tall with you hands on your hips)
- Doorway Trigger: Each time you walk through a doorway imagine there is a string from the top of your head to the door jamb pulling you up. Stand tall, shoulders back, chin up and chest out. Picture this each time you walk through a doorway and allow this to trigger better posture habits.
- Power Boost: Need a little extra confidence before walking into that meeting? Take two minutes to find a private place and practice a power pose. The best pose for this is the “Victory”. (stand tall with arms raised in a V above your head)
Follow these exercises each day and see a dramatic increase in your confidence levels.
