“Organize your desk and workspace for maximum productivity.”

Today’s Coachcast is about setting up your workspace so suit what you do.

What:

Creating a workspace that improves your productivity and effectiveness.

Why:

We all have too much to do to waste time working in an unorganized work zone.

How:

Just like you plan out a job site you need to look at your workspace and plan it out. You want to keep the most frequently used things close at hand and available. You also want to have a clean work area.

1.) Look at the setup and layout

  • Create and ergonomic space that promotes good posture
  • Keep your desk to clear, only keep things on the desk that are used consistently (many times daily)
  • Create a secondary space for all the other stuff you need close by (like a side table) – Keep things like:
    • Frequently used files
    • A space to put things for future (inbox/outbox – tickle files)
    • Supplies / chargers / etc.
  • Keep some fun and inspirational items around too – very important

2.) Morning

  • Each morning clear the desk if not already done
  • Set up your agenda for the day and start rocking it

3.) End of Day

  • Clean up everything and put it away where it belongs
  • Carry over any non-completed items to tomorrow’s agenda and toss today’s

You have to set things up in a way that works best for you but the idea is to have all the things you need most often close to you. Just like you plan you job sites you need to review your office workspace.

Take-Action Items:

  1. Get your workspace setup for productivity

  2. Start fresh and clean each morning

  3. Clean-up at the end of the day and clear the slate for tomorrow
