As we continue to evaluate our business model, today we take  a look at our policies and procedures.

As we continue with our review we are following the 4-Pillars of Successful Contracting. Today is #2. Policies and Procedures.

 

  1. Policies and procedures are the blocking and tackling – the basics
    1. These tell us how to deliver our product
    2. How we perform our jobs
    3. These can be vague to very detailed depending on the topic and business
  2. Review each area of your business
    1. Sales & marketing
    2. Estimating
    3. Project planning
    4. Project management
    5. Project controls
    6. Project accounting
    7. Project closeout
    8. Business management
    9. Business accounting
      1. Ask yourself questions about each topic to help understand where you are
  3. Three main concerns
    1. During this process, I try to identify 3 key things
      1. How are you performing at your current level? Are you scoring a 90% of higher (would you give yourself an A?)

      2. Can your current levels support your goals for next year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?

      3. What would the ideal situations look like for next year? Next 3 years? Next 5 years?
