Developing and tracking key project metrics can help keep you on track.
- Key Metrics
- Key metrics are items that give us insight into how the project is progressing
- Usually a measure of productivity, financial completion or quality
- We often track a few but don’t get too many or they won’t be useful
- Should be items that take care of the rest
- What can you track that will let you know where everything is
- For example: with footings tracking LF of trench would not be a good indicator since it’s not finished
- Maybe it’s CY/Day – Manhours – LF – SF – Ton
- Pick items that can give you good indication of where you stand
- What can you track that will let you know where everything is
- Use leading indicators and share with your team
- Avoid using metrics that take days or weeks to find answer
- Use something that you can tally every day or sooner if necessary
- Create a board to show the team where you are
- I like the United Way boards that use a thermometer and fill it up as they go
